VoIP glossary - Internet Phone

Internet Phone

Welcome to the 21st century, Buck Rogers! An internet phone uses an internet connection (ADSL or cable) to transmit the call.

Gone is the traditional telephone sitting on a lamp table. In its place: a microphone and headset.

The internet phone is a by-product of a service provider like Skype or InterCall.

Don't get too hung up on the inferior quality of internet phones. Instead, relish the fact that paying next to nothing and making big state-run phone companies sweat bullets as their profits start to dwindle!
